The 2021 Jr. Bellies, loaded with youngsters this season, hit the halfway part of the greatly reduced schedule with a 2 and 2 win loss record. After victories over Langley and Burnaby, NW fell to the perennial powerhouse Coquitlam Adanacs and a much improved Delta Islanders team in the Ladner Events Center. Despite the record, GM Warren Goss has liked a great deal of what he has seen thus far.

“We’re a young but a game bunch out there. We ‘re getting solid performances from Axel Sanderson, Ben Stewart, Finn Stark, Ezra Glanville and Blake Bozak. We’re also very pleased with our goaltending thus far as Keegan Melnychuk has really kept us in the games thus far. And, we’re also hoping to get a good look at our backup goaltender, Ryan Downie, a walk on prospect out of North Vancouver.” To emphasize the Bellies youth this year, the team only graduates 3 regulars this year: Captain Cole Catton, Finn Stark and Cam Husband.

Things do not get any easier in terms of scheduling, as the nature of this season has squeezed some games tightly together. Next up for the Bellies is a Friday (July 23rd) in PoCo at 8PM. A quick turnaround will see the Nanaimo Timbermen visit QPA
