Jr. Bellies Add 2 Hall of Famers to Coaching Staff
Russ Heard and Andy Ogilvie Take Over the Reins of the Jr. Salmonbellies
The New Westminster Junior A Salmonbellies of the BCJALL are excited to announce our new coaching staff members for the 2023 season. Russ Heard will assume Head Coaching duties with Andy Ogilvie joining the staff as Defensive Coach. Both Russ and Andy are not only legendary players and coaches in junior, senior and professional, they are also both are members of The Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame.
Russ returns to his New Westminster roots, after playing all of his minor and junior lacrosse in the Royal City. Amassing over 1000 points in the Western Lacrosse Association , Russ Heard was a three time WLA scoring leader and was twice selected league MVP. He played four seasons in the NLL and won a Champions Cup with the Toronto Rock in 2000.
Andy returns to the Bellies after a long hiatus as well. After a remarkable junior career in Peterborough - winning Minto Cups in 1983 and 1986 - Andy moved out west and joined the New Westminster Senior Salmonbellies of the WLA, winning Mann Cups there in 1989 and 1991. He then won a third Mann Cup with the Coquitlam Adanacs in 2001, as well as playing 10 seasons in the National Lacrosse League.
Russ and Andy bring unquestionable extensive experience and passion for the game ,attributes which will undoubtably help guide a young Bellies team - a team which is building for the future.
The entire Junior Bellies organization also wishes to thank coaches Rich Catton and Daren Fridge, who were instrumental in bringing the team to the high standards we aspire for. Their incredible work and commitment to the Jr. Bellies for the past 5 seasons, is greatly appreciated by all the Junior Bellies’ family. We wish them both good luck in the future.
