Jr. Bellies Take Two on Road to Get Back Into Playoff Chase

The Jr. Bellies went two for two on this last week’s road games to climb back into the hunt for a playoff spot in this tightly contested BCJALL 2019 season. First up for the Bellies were the Delta Islanders in Ladner. NW took a 15 – 11 win in overtime, which was actually a much closer game than the score indicated. Down 4-1 after first period, the Bellies came out roaring in the 2nd, scoring 7 times. Tied 8-8 going into the 3rd, the plucky Islanders finally tied it up for the last time 10-10 in regulation, sending the game into overtime. NW dominated in the extra frame outscoring Delta 5-3 for the win. Leading the way offensively for the Bellies were a red hot Tre Leclair with a game high 10 points on 5 goals and 5 assists. Will Malcom hit for 7 assists, Cam Garlin went 2 and 4, Lucas Green had a goal and 3 helpers, Erik Maas chipped in with 2 goals and an assist, Jr. B call up Kai George had a pair of helpers, with Austin Ducommun rounding out the scoring with a pair of goals. Goaltender Keegan Melenychuk came on in relief of Braydon Bell and held the Bellies in the game all night with 38 saves.

It was a much tighter defensive game against the Saints of PoCo on Friday night .The Bellies took an 8-6 win with Tre Leclaire scoring twice in the last 10 minutes to seal the victory. Leclaire finished with 6 points on the night followed by Will Malcom with 2 and 2, Nick Hannay with a goal and 2 assists, Ben Stewart and Drew Andre both hit for a goal and an assist respectively and Cam Garlin had 3 helpers. Bellies Goaltender Brayden Bell had a strong bounce back game, making 38 saves on the night; holding the Saints to one early 3rdperiod marker and then shutting the door for the duration.

Next game for the Bellies is a big tilt with the Langley Thunder, Tuesday May 21stat QPA.
