Bellies Take 2 of 3 to Get Back in Playoff Chase

Your NW Jr. Bellies have won two of their last 3 games to get back into the playoff hunt in this season. This year, the BCJALL has gone to a ‘sudden death’ format for all overtime games. And in their first overtime of the year, the boys took full advantage. The Bellies took a thrilling overtime victory over the Burnaby Lakers 14-13, with Noah Armitage scoring at 2:35 to end it. The very next night, at Langley’s LEC, the Fishmen suffered a 10-8 loss to the much improved Langley Junior Thunder. The Thunder scored 2 goals in the last 3 minutes to seal the victory. On Tuesday May 31st, the Bellies then hosted the Delta Islanders at Queens Park Arena.

The Delta game finally displayed the team’s offensive strength, with a convincing 12 – 9 victory over the visitors. The Jr. Fishmen poured 50 shots on the Islanders goal, with big offensive games from Drew Andre, Noah Armitage and Ben Stewart. Bellies goalie Keegan Melnychuk came up strong in the 3rd period, allowing only the one goal and finishing with 41 saves.

The next game for the Bellies will be a visit to the new PoCo Community Center, to take on the Port Coquitlam Saints. Game time is 8:00 pm. The Bellies then return for a home game against the visiting Burnaby Lakers, on Tuesday, June 7th at 8:00, Queens Park Arena. Be there to watch the Bellies continue the march to the post season.
