BELLIES SEASON ENDS WITH DUAL LOSSES TO BURNABY LAKERS
The NW Junior Salmonbellies’ short season came to an end at Queens Park Arena with a hard fought 7-5 loss to the Burnaby Lakers. The Lakers are now scheduled to start The Mainland finals against the Coquitlam Adanacs in a best of 5 series starting Friday, August 13th at Burnaby’s Bill Copeland Arena. The Bellies gave it their all in both this series and the opener against the Delta Islanders – which they won 2 games to 1. However, the veteran laden Burnaby Lakers used a well balanced attack, a fast transition game and solid goaltending throughout by Matteo Tak, to take down the Bellies in 2 straight. Although the season is over, the future looks very bright, as the Bellies’ system is only graduating a handful of regular starters from this season. We will enjoy a full complement of players who will have had a good start in junior lacrosse in this ahortened season. The hope is that this experience will propel the 2022 Bellies to greater things. The Bellies will lose the following players to graduation:
Finn Stark, Offense, Cam Husband, Defense/Transition, Joe Callard, Defense and Team Captain Cole Catton, Defense/Transition.
We wish our grads all the best and hope to see their names in senior lacrosse for years to come.
Hopefully – as everyone everywhere is hoping, regardless of whether it be sports, school activities or any public endeavors – the worst of this pandemic is behind us. A return to normalcy, whether it be our lacrosse league or your neighbourhood slow-pitch team, is the goal for 2022. The NW Junior Bellies would like to thank all those fans who came out for our short season and playoff run, and we hope to see you next season under much better and ‘normal circumstances’.
