BELLIES 3 + 3 HEADING INTO LAST 2 GAMES OF SEASON
The Jr. Bellies head into the last 2 games of the ‘regular’ season after a loss to the Delta Islanders, a bounce back win against the Port Coquitlam Saints and a tough loss to the visiting Nanaimo Timbermen this past Sunday at Queens Park Arena. Friday night, July 30th at Coquitlam, the J Bells visit the always strong Adanacs, then wind up their season with a home game against the Jr. Shamrocks at QPA, Sunday August 1st at 4:00 pm. By winning both games the Bellies have a chance at being the 2nd seed in the short post game playoffs. Lose one or more and they will meet one of the other 4 Mainland teams in a best of 3 quarter final playoff. The winners of those games will meet either the 1st or 2nd seed in a semi final. The winner of those respective games will play for the Mainland Championship. The two Island teams will have a separate playoff and championship at the same time. Even though it has been a struggle at times for the Bellies, there have been some real bright spots in this very young team.
Austin Ducommen has led the offense highlighted by a monster 9 point game against PoCo. Other strong offensive players have been Owen Stark, Ezra Glanville, Drew Andre, Ben Stewart and recently injured Daunte Twamley. The defense has been receiving good performances from Ben Soenen, Cole Catton, George Kai and Blake Bozak.
Goaltender Keegan Melnychuk has kept his team in the close games and won a few of those games outright with his steady play.
The Bellies only graduate 4 players this year and our young team appears headed for a very bright future in the coming seasons.
Come out to our last home game of the season and see the Bellies take on the always strong, perennial power Shamrocks.
