ARE WE COMING BACK? PROMISING NEWS FROM BC GOV.

By now all BC citizens will have heard the encouraging news from Dr. Bonnie Henry and our Premier regarding the lifting of many Covid restrictions in the next few weeks. A lifting of restrictions on many outdoor and indoor sports are also under that notification. As of June 15th, the restrictions on games and practices will be largely removed. There will still be a number of possible restrictions and caveats on the form of those restrictions that are still to be determined however. We do not know exactly how practices, games and a resumptions of league play will be done. Amongst the important items still to be determined include:

  • IF there is a resumption, what might indoor restrictions look like? Considerations such as numbers of players, coaches and staff members at each game would need to be considered.
  • Spectators? What, if any, restrictions might there be for the amount of spectators allowed per game and how might that be managed?
  • Most importantly, IF the season commences, what would the schedule look like in terms of: amount of games, possible travel issues for away games, and, length of schedule in terms of when we would start, finish and possible playoff scenarios.

All of the aforementioned items are actively being considered by the league as of this writing. We all hope to have some answers soon. Meanwhile, your Junior Salmonbellies continue to work out and prepare for the possible season under the current Covid rules, as we have been so doing for the past few weeks. We plan of having full Junior A, Junior Tier One and Two teams this season.

The players are getting ready, the coaches are ready and in place, and team staff and management are raring to get lacrosse going again. To follow any updates regarding the season, refer to the league website and/or this one.

Here’s hoping.
